Climate change
is really changing, and global warming is getting
hotter and hotter everyday. Why is this so?
We hear suggestions from environmentalists that everyone
should help in fighting environmental abuse. But it seems
nobody is doing his/her share, and the efforts of a few are
in vain. It is not enough - of course. The situation is
getting worse. There's much environmental abuse, people are
throwing their garbage when no one is watching. The
factories and manufacturing plants are producing and making
more and more new products to sell, there are more than
enough in their stocks and inventories. And consumers are
throwing their not-so-old appliances to give in to new
ones.
The ordinary American consumer buys more than he/she
needs at home. It's just the way it is for an ordinary
American, a culture of owning more than what he needs.
Meanwhile, the rest of the world are in dire need, and are
content with second-hand or third hand appliances and
equipment. The so-called third world is the dumpsite of
Americans and advanced countries.
Can we fight climate change and global warming? Yes we
can. But can we do it with much desired success? We may not
be able to do with much success if corporations continue
with their wanton disregard for the environment, and
producing more and more products and stock in their
warehouses, selling them at low, low prices just to dispose
of their surplus inventories. They advertise and tell the
world of their social responsibility but sometimes this is
just for show, or only to comply with certain commitments
to the community or some government procedures.
Pollution continues. More and more carbon dioxide and
gas emissions are thrown into the air, all for progress and
development. The U.S. has backed out from the Kyoto
Protocol which binds some 37 industrialized nations to
limit on their greenhouse gas emissions mainly because it
will hurt their economy.
What we need is a firm commitment and determination from
governments, corporations, organizations, and from each and
every consumer. What we should do is to make everyone aware
of the consequences of our actions, of our disregard for
mother earth. What we are doing is not enough.
We have to keep our minds open and focused on the
preservation of the environment, everything we do should be
friendly to nature. Our homes, materials, equipment,
appliances and everything including what we eat should be
of and for mother earth. This means that everything we do
is in consonance with love of mother Earth.
Our appliances must be properly disposed of. Don't throw
them away to the garbage box. Learn how to recycle those
appliances. A recycled appliance can help save the
environment. Tell your friends, neighbors and relatives to
do the same. If no one knows how to recycle, you have to
return these appliances to where you bought them. There are
appliance companies or corporations that collect old and
unserviceable appliances. This means that if you buy new
appliances, buy them from companies who have
environment-friendly policies.
Don't buy or own more than what you need? Doing so would
just show your greed. Be responsible. Ownership is covered
with responsibility.
It's nice to breath the fresh air of the countryside.
Sometimes however air in our countryside is not fresh
anymore. There seems to be no way out. The atmosphere may
blow out if we all become irresponsible of our actions.
Imagine what will happen five or ten years from now. Sea
water will rise. The ice in the Antarctic may melt. We may
climb to the highest mountain for solitude. Or we'll freeze
in the cold. God forbid.
